Grey’s Anatomy Star Named “most Fascinating”

June 17th, 2010 Jesse No comments

Barbara Walters hosts an ABC special during year-ends to recognize the most fascinating people of the year. This year, Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2007 will be an hour-long tribute to the individuals who have made their mark in history, in the year 2007. These people include Justin Timberlake, Jennifer Hudson, and Grey’s Anatomy star Katherine Heigl. The special will also be featuring two surprise guests.

This year, Heigl grabbed the spotlight with her box office hit movie with Seth Rogan, Knocked Up, which also received critical acclaim. She also bagged the 2007 Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal of Dr. Izzie Stevens on Grey’s Anatomy. Moreover, she is engaged to singer/songwriter Josh Kelley, whom she is to wed next month, right before Christmas.

Katherine Heigl has definitely caught everyone’s attention with her outspoken nature. During the Isaiah issue, she liberally answered anyone’s questions, placing her opinion in the forefront of her statements. She criticized Washington for his inappropriate behavior and praised her best friend, T.R. Knight for handling the situation well. Unlike her co-stars who gave vague answers, Heigl was as blunt as she could get.

Moreover, during the 2007 Emmys, her name was mispronounced in the announcement of her victory, and they had to bleep out her reaction after she swore. Heigl just isn’t afraid of being herself, and that’s enough for Barbara Walters to name her as one of the most admirable personalities of the year.

Aside from Katherine Heigl, Barbara Walters will also have Victoria and David Beckham, former President Bill Clinton, and the masterminds behind MySpace, Tom Anderson and Chris DeWolfe on the ABC special. Last year, another Grey’s Anatomy star, Patrick Dempsey, made it to the list of the most fascinating people of 2006.

Grey’s Anatomy Star Weds Record Producer

June 15th, 2010 Jesse No comments

We’re all tired of hearing about the writers’ strike so let’s move on to other more amusing things. On Friday, November 9, the star of Grey’s Anatomy, Ellen Pompeo got married to her fiancé, Chris Ivery at a ceremony in Lower Manhattan ‘s City Hall. The actress’ father, Joseph Pompeo also confirmed the news about the wedding, telling People magazine that he is “very happy for her,” and that “she just didn’t want a big thing.”

Ellen Pompeo’s spokeswoman, Jennifer Allen described the ceremony as “wonderful and small and intimate.” Moreover, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Deputy Mayor Patti Harris were the only witnesses at the ceremony. Pompeo wore an Yves St. Laurent dress she pulled out of her closet while Harris did the picture taking with a digital camera. The 38-year-old record producer, Chris Ivery and Bloomberg have mutual friends and have both hailed from Massachusetts . Moreover, Pompeo also grew up in Massachussetts.

Shortly after the nuptials, the couple were seen at Sunday night’s Kicks game at Madison Square Garden . Pompeo then went back to Hollywood to continue filming the last available episode of her hit television series, Grey’s Anatomy.

Back in 2003, Pompeo and Ivery first met at a grocery store. Six months later, they started dating and got engaged in November of this year.

Ivery proposed to Pompeo on her 37th birthday, an Allen said that she “was surprised and thrilled.” Ivery gave her an engagement ring that held a 3.5-carat emerald-cut diamond in a platinum setting from jewelry designer Tacori.

Pompeo stuck to her word, as she previously told People magazine that there won’t be any big gathering or celebration for her wedding.

Meanwhile, Pompeo’s medical drama, Grey’s Anatomy hasn’t been doing well as it recently cut short its production due to the writers strike. Fans mustn’t worry about Seth Green’s appearance on the show, though, as his two episodes have been already filmed and will soon be on air. However, Dawson ‘s Creek star Joshua Jackson’s appearance has been delayed indefinitely.

Grey’s Anatomy Star Worried by Writers’ Strike

May 18th, 2010 Jesse No comments

Beginning yesterday, the Writers Guild of America or WGA began their strike which literally pulled the rug under most television shows today. Many of the shows are now dangling with uncertainty as their unwritten episodes have flown out the window due to the strike. Moreover, those shows who are either in their freshman or follow-up seasons are in danger of losing it, and even top-rated and highly-acclaimed shows such as Grey’s Anatomy are also pressured to help fix this problem.

Many are bracing for a chilly Thanksgiving as the production of various shows have gone cold, and may as well lead into an even colder Christmas season. Producers and actors have early on expressed their views on this matter.

Grey’s Anatomy’s very own Dr. Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd, Patrick Dempsey admitted that he is worried about the repercussions of the writers strike on the award-winning show.

“The problem is that we’re not that far ahead, script wise,” Dempsey explained. “I think we’ll have enough shows that take us through Christmas, and, after that, we’ll see if that’s the season or not. I think there’s a real chance of that happening. It’s going to be very bad for television, certainly. The season will be wiped out.”

“My concern is not so much for myself really, because I’ll be alright, but I think how long this strike lasts is going to affect a lot of people that are living paycheck to paycheck – they are going to be damaged profoundly by this, and I think that’s a real tragedy,” the Grey’s Anatomy star said. “I think a lot of people and a lot of families are going to be in a difficult place in their lives; hopefully we can come to some sort of understanding and resolve this soon enough that it doesn’t affect those people.”

Apparently, Dempsey isn’t the only one who is sympathetic towards the lesser paid television crew and production personnel who are groping to hold on to the end of the entertainment line. Bill Lawrence, creator and executive producer of Scrubs, also shares the same sentiment.

“Right now, I fear that a lot of the writers have no real clue just how tough this is going to be. I’d imagine things will get very grim sometime after Christmas,” Lawrence admitted. “I’ve kind of won the lottery in having a few shows that went to syndication in both Scrubs and Spin City , so anything I say about my own sacrifice would drip with selfishness. This is such a bigger deal for the guys who work below the line and largely live hand-to-mouth and the younger writers who can’t go without a paycheck for very long.”

Grey’s Star Happy With the Direction Her Character is Taking

May 15th, 2010 Jesse No comments

The last season of Grey’s Anatomy spelled doom for Sandra Oh’s character, Dr. Cristina Yang. Dr. Preston Burke (Isaiah Washington), her fiance, called off their wedding and abruptly left the apartment empty except for her things. This season also seems to place a cloud over her head as she is now in constant conflict with Dr. Burke’s replacement, Dr. Erica Hahn (Brooke Smith). Despite all these depressing storylines, Oh is still happy about the direction that her Cristina is heading.

“I really think the show is about women and hopefully it will keep exploring what it’s like to be a female doctor. I am hoping their relationship will delve into that,” Oh said in an interview with The Canadian Press. “It’s interesting, whatever’s going on there – it’s a good obstacle for Cristina, because she’s so driven. What do you when you’re like Cristina and suddenly you have a huge obstacle in your path?”

Grey’s Anatomy is currently facing an obstacle as the unresolved writers’ strike has set the show’s production on pause. Sandra Oh was even one of the first to join the writers on the picket lines.

“This is the most important industry strike ever,” the actress said. “It speaks tremendously to how the media is run globally now, and the rights of thousands and thousands of workers. I am really hoping that the producers come to the table and are fair to the writers.”

Moreover, the Canadian actress believes that the Canadian writers of the show have been discussing the strike “in a way that is much more socialist-based than the Americans.”

Despite all the uproar the strike has caused, Oh is confident that the show would not lose its viewers due to the long wait. She said, “Grey’s [Anatomy] is really strong and we have a loyal following.”

Grey’s Anatomy Star Says “last Season Was Boring to Do”

May 13th, 2010 Jesse No comments

According to Grey’s Anatomy star, Patrick Dempsey, “last season was boring to do.” Not exactly the raving compliment the show and its network probably would have wanted from one of their lead mainstays. The man who gives life to Dr. Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd made the comment as he admitted to the New York Post recently that his minor lip-locking indiscretion with Nurse Rose, played by Lauren Stamile, was a welcome novelty.

“It will make the storylines more interesting and compelling,” Dempsey said. “Last season was boring to do. Enough is enough already. It’s time for the writers to go back and take a look at things and find some new paths for these characters. It was too repetitive for me.”

The controversial kiss took place in a recent Grey’s Anatomy episode, adding another layer of tension to his already rocky relationship with Ellen Pompeo’s Meredith Grey. Despite the repercussions his momentary lapse in judgment may cause, Dempsey is grateful for the diversion, saying he feels “encouraged” that someone new has come into to his character’s life.

In line with this sentiment, the actor also remained uncertain about the future of Derek and Meredith ’s romance.

“You would think that they would work through their difficulties and move forward,” the Grey’s Anatomy heartthrob commented. “ Meredith needs to get healthy. That’s an interesting thing to explore with her character. Does he stand by her while she goes through that? Or do they work through their problems alone.” [Grey's Anatomy creator/writer] Shonda Rhimes is very clear on what she wants to do but not clear on what the actors are going to do.”

In the meantime, even as Dempsey and the rest of the cast and crew of Grey’s Anatomy remain unemployed due to the writers’ walkout, the actor can at least continue to savor the success of his most recent film, Enchanted.

“I always knew that if it worked, it would work huge,” Dempsey confessed. “But you always take a risk with these things. It’s been interesting because everyone likes this movie – men, kids, moms. The movie touches the child in everyone, while dispelling the whole idea that if you find that one right person you are going to live happily ever after.”
